The Instructors

Ron Gursky, who founded Rugcutters’ Dance Studio in 1982, has taught dance in the Boston area for over 30 years and has trained many of the area’s fine amateurs and professionals. He is on the faculty of many professional training conventions locally and nationally. In addition to the current fashions in partner dance, Ron also has an extensive background in Historical and National dance.

Due to his popularity with his students, Ron has been sought out by Portsmouth Ballroom Dance Studio and the Cape Cod Dance Center as a guest instructor for the past ten years.

Nancy Murphy began dancing at the age of 3. Her early dance experience was in ballet, tap & jazz. She performed with the Maine State Ballet & the Connecticut Ballet. Later, she also performed with the Mandala Folk Dance Ensemble. Today she is a member of the Back Pocket Dancers.

She began teaching partnered dance in 1989. In addition to teaching at Rugcutters’, she currently can be found at several other local studios, including Dance Technics, Marblehead School of Ballet  & Brookline Adult & Community Education.  Her main focus is partnered dances, such as Swing, Argentine Tango, Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha Cha, Rumba, Salsa and many others.

Nancy has performed at many local events over the years, such as CIABDA’s Cape celebration of National Ballroom Dance Week and the Boston Tango Society’s annual Boston Tango Festival. She also guest teaches upon occasion – for instance at the North Shore Civic Ballet’s annual Salsa party fundraiser, Argentine Tango in Bangor, Maine, and at Swing City in Cambridge.

As a social dancer, Nancy can been seen on the floor at events ranging from Milongas to Swing dance clubs, and just about anything in between. She brings this “real life” experience to her teaching. She’s trained many Boston area dancers and teachers.
